Sid Holland

Sid Holland has been a highly successful college player, a professional in the Texas Rangers organization, a Minor League coach for the Houston Astros, and a college coach. Today he operates a successful coaching academy, ProWay, in Houston.

A native of Houston, Holland was an outfielder on the San Jacinto Junior College National Championship-winning team in 1988 and played at Pan American before being drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1990. He reached High A level before moving into coaching. He was an assistant coach at Mary Hardin-Baylor, then an NAIA school in Texas and now in NCAA Division III, before moving to the pros, where he had several successful seasons coaching in the Houston Astros Minor League system. He then returned home to spend more time with his family and to coach privately in Houston.

Holland is considered one of baseball’s great hitting “gurus” and has worked with some of the most prominent names in professional baseball, beginning with longtime Major Leaguers Lance Berkman, Daryle Ward, and Mark DeRosa. Today he works with Major League All-Stars Carl Crawford, Michael Bourn, Chris Young, and Jay Bruce, plus other Major Leaguers including Jason Bourgeois, Nick Stavinoha, Paul Janish, J. R. Towles, and Orlando Hudson, and a host of Minor League players and prospects. Sid made history in 2010 when three of his players, Crawford, Young, and Bourn, all played in the MLB All-Star game. He is heavily involved in youth baseball and select travel teams, and coaches and organizes the highly successful Colt 45’s travel teams in Houston. He has guided hundreds of youth players, many of whom have signed college scholarships or been drafted by a Major League club. He was a longtime coach and advisor of Justin Humphries.
